Ecological Footprint

Some of the things that affect your ecological footprint are

·         How much electricity you use and if it’s renewable energy or not

·         How much water you use and if you have running water in your home.

·         How much transport you use such as car, bike, bus, train, plan or walk. If you do drive car pool.

·          If you support local grown produce or you buy processed foods

·          If you eat a lot of meat.

·          What material your house is made out of and its size.

·         Your purchases (clothing, furniture, electronics)

Students in our biology class completed the EPA ecological footprint calculator. On average our class results showed that if all the worlds population lived as we do we would need 3  and ½ earths to support our lifestyles.

To live a sustainable lifestyle we need to

·         Use renewable energy.

·         Use public transport, ride or walk.

·         Eat less meat.

·         Don’t buy unnecessary products for example clothing, furniture and electronics.

·         Recycle when possible.

·         Don’t buy processed and plastic packaged foods.

·         Use energy saving light bulb.

·         Eat locally grown produce.
